Oh the Humanity!
Words I don't like to hear in the morning nor before bed is the fact that "we are out of water". How can one be out of water? Well, my wife and I are very posh and along with that, I have my discrepancies about Oklahoma water. Often when drinking out of the faucet I can taste dirt. Dirt water is a crime in brewing coffee. When this news reaches my ears I then know that in the morning I will be spending money at Scooters down the road. Don't waste coffee with bad water. One of the few enjoyments that come with mornings (excluding you morning running freaks ;-) ) is sipping on that delicious cup of dark foreign brew. Tristan Stephenson writes "Water fulfills two roles in coffee brewing: first as an ingredient, where it represents at least 90 percent of the cup of coffee, and second as a solvent, where it is used to extract soluble flavor from ground coffee." (Barista's Guide to Coffee, p.68).
To say the least, water is crucial to a cup of coffee as water is for the body. There is no coffee without water. There is no life without water. This is also true of the work of the Holy Spirit. New life does not come apart from the work of the Holy Spirit. "Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born terof water and the Spirit, he can not enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5). The water Jesus gives will always quench the inner longings of the soul. Parched from life, everything we see oftentimes is so negative, the news is negative, complaints from work are always negative, illness plaguing the world. As Herb Morrison said over the radio in 1937 when the Hindenberg Zephyr went into flames "Oh the humanity!". Life is like this oftentimes. Imagining going through the tragedies of life without Jesus. All have been there at one point and time for man is born in sin separated from the life of Christ,
"remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world." (Ephesians 2:12). Hope is not found in stuff, but found in Jesus alone, without Him it's a continual cry of "Oh the humanity!" in total despair. Stuff can breed pride inside, the Israelite had a closeness to the God of the universe, and all was excluded. Making them thus proud, their is also two sides though. The Greeks were also proud regarding their philosophy, their education, their respectability amongst the nations of the Roman Empire. What can unite man under one sovereiegn? God Himself through the divine person Jesus Christ. "But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ."(v.13). Nations destroy one another but the Kingdom does not for she (the bride) is united under one banner and that is the banner of Lamb of God (Jesus).
"For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd,
and he will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." (Revelation 7:17)
